Technically, Amber is not a gemstone. It is a fossil. Fossillized tree sap to be exact. The most familar color of Amber is a lovely warm golden yellow shade, but it also comes in various colors ranging from yellow, to green to red and back again.
Amber has a long history of promoting fertility and was often carved into the shape of animals associated there with, such as rabbits, frogs and fish. This should almost be a given since when you think about what amber actually is, or more what those tiny plants and animals trapped within amber actually represent, it is no wonder Amber is tied so directly to the Universal Life Force.

Egyptians used amber to protect mummies from destruction and decay. It was not unusual for amulets made of amber to be found in tombs because it protected the deceased on their journey thought the afterlife.
Early doctors prescribed amber to be taken internally to cure various ailments like headaches, heart problems and arthritis.
Amber is not a mineral, in fact it is more of a natural plastic. There is not exact chemical composition that makes up amber.
